As we get further into the school year, and having less and less time in my actual office, I decided to use this platform to make announcement, interact with students and parents, and share important information with everyone. There is no promises that I will update this page on a daily basis, but I will definitely try to maintain this website to the best I can.

October 14th
PSAT for Sophomores & Juniors October 23rd- UAF Inside Out Day. Seniors are headed to Fairbanks! I have one spot left in the vans! Sign up outside of my door. See the link below for details. https://www.uaf.edu/admissions/visit/inside-out/ October 24- ACT test in Mr. Klein's Room October 27th- ASVAB exam for 10-12th grade. Signup outside my door! The dates have been entered and updated for the 2015-2016 school year. Be sure to check out the Redesigned 2015 PSAT and Redesigned March 2015 SAT. It'll be a bit confusing, but let me know if you have questions!

Click here to access application materials: NHS Application The Student Conservation Association in Anchorage is looking for a summer trail crew. Students ages 15-19 who are interested in working in a hands-on outdoors work experience this summer should check out www.thesca.org/akcrew. This is an EXPENSE-PAID weekend orientation in April near Anchorage. The deadline was March 20th but check it out for next summer!
2016 is the year of changes for the SAT! Here are some highlights:
1. Assess relevant words in context 2. Answer questions the directly relate to the work performed in college and career. Interpret graphs/ charts likely to be encountered in science. 3. Support answers they choose 4. Analyze problems in science and history/ social studies 5. The essay will more closely mirror college writing assignments and promote a practice of reading a wide variety of arguments and analyzing an author's work 6. The test will include an excerpt from one of the U.S. founding documents and address conversations about freedom, justice and human dignity 7. Focus will be on 3 essential areas of math including problem solving and data analysis, Algebra (master of linear equations), Advanced Math. 8. The BEST YET: They changed the scoring! No more testing strategy! 1 point for correct answer 0 points for unanswered items 0 points for wrong answers Be in the know by signing up for updates at: deliveringopportunity.org Be sure and pay attention to the school calendar! There are lots of exciting things ahead for Juniors and Seniors (while Freshmen and Sophomores are testing).
April 7th: 8:30-12:00 Juniors will be with Kurt (DHS College & Career Guide from the Alaska Commission on Post Secondary Education). He will be with them discussing post secondary planning information and what is ahead this next year! Also what to start planning for! Seniors: 8:45-3:00- They will be on Ft. Greely at the CAC for an all day Career Fair. They will be learning about resumes, finding jobs and most importantly budgeting! There will be an active Career Fair put on by Ft. Greely MWR/ CYSS. Lunch is being provided by the DHS Booster Club. April 8th 6:00 pm-8:00pm. Juniors and their parents are invited to attend a Post Secondary Planning Night at the Career Advancement Center behind the high school. We will discuss (in depth) the pathways to all post secondary options. Many guest speakers and dinner will be provided by the Partners for Progress in Delta. April 14th: Seniors: Will have a workshop at the Career Advancement Center from 8:30-12:00. This will provide students with an opportunity to call college advisors, check financial aid packages, register for fall classes, take the ALEKS math placement test and any other pieces they need to complete! Juniors: Will head to the CAC on Ft. Greely for a Career Exploration Tour of the military base. They will explore career fields including the military, maintenance and construction, Business Administration and more. Breakfast is being provided by Ft. Greely MWR/CYSS!
